Here is my second entry for the Geld Medal Foods Premiums (not necessarily the second one I obtained). Of the 12 cards, two are horizontally oriented - Frisch and Rogell. Old horizontal cards are always a bit funny to me. The way they crop the photo so close to the player, and that it is usually posed and not real action, makes it look like the player is being forced to get into frame. "Hey pal, all I can see is your legs. Crouch down or something. There you go, plenty of room to the side if you wanna spread out. Make it look like you're poorly fielding a grounder." "But I'm over by the dugout and not even facing the plate." "Don't worry about it. It's gonna be great."
Frankie Frisch, the Fordham Flash, was the manager and second baseman for the Champion Cardinals. The Cardinals traded one of the all-time greats in Rogers Hornsby for him for the 1927 season. Turned out to be a good trade since Frisch became the leader of the late 20s through mid-30s Cardinals (known as the Gashouse Gang) that appeared in 4 World Series, winning 2 of them. By 1934 the Flash was slowing down a bit but was still good. He held or still holds several big records for hits, average, and steals by a switch hitter.
