Adam Wainwright, what a treasure. In 2003, the Cardinals traded young slugger, J.D. Drew, and Eli Marerro to the Braves for Ray King, Jason Marquis, and a minor league pitcher named Adam Wainwright. He debuted in the majors in 2005 (2 games), but it was 2006 when he really began to find his place. He ended that season as the team's postseason closer, dramatically striking out Carlos Beltran to win the NLCS. And doing it again against Brandon Inge to win the World Series - both with wicked curve balls. Since then, he has been a mainstay with the team - a true Cardinals legend. He and Yadier Molina have spent their whole careers together. Wainwright pitches today, kicking off yet another season as one of the ten oldest active players in the league.
