William "Wild Bill" Hallahan was not a good pitcher for the 1934 Cardinals. But he was an All-star in '33. He also had a well-deserved reputation as a big-game pitcher (pitching well in several World Series match-ups), and in '34 his work in the Series rose to the task. Wild Bill got his name because he didn't always have the best control of his pitches. Otherwise he seems to have been a quiet fellow.
Similar to strange absence of Greenberg, Gehringer, and Rowe from the Tigers representatives, The Cardinals had several players that would have been welcome in the set. Ripper Collins might have been their best offensive performer in '34 - not in the set. Leo Durocher was the captain of the team and the embodiment of the Gashouse Gang down and dirty grit - not in the set. And and the pitching side, the Cardinals had a stable of old war horses in Jesse Haines, Burleigh Grimes, and Dazzy Vance - not in the set.
