Jo Jo White was apparently called Jo Jo not as a version of his real name Joyner (boring), but because of how he pronounced his native land of Georgia (superb). Jo Jo did not have a great career, but his 1934 season was good (top ten in on-base and steals). And his performance in the '34 series was great.
This is my second Jo Jo White R313. The first one I found (along with a Tommy Bridges) on a guy's postcard website. I got them for cheap, but postcard people often write on the back of their postcards with pencil (the price and sometimes other information), and such was the case with these two. I was always on the lookout for an affordable upgrade, and I was fortunate enough to eventually find one.
In many of these Gold Medal cards, as I am sure you have noticed, you can see trees in the background, and the field is not in great shape. I believe these photos were likely taken during spring training (some of the trees have a southern look to them). I am sure this could be further researched and determined more certainly, but I am just going to go with the spring training theory.
